Making a Booking for a Lake Garda Apartment
You want to know that your payments are secure. When you make a booking for car rental, a hotel, travel insurance or airport car parking, payment is made online via a well established third party company suc
h as Auto Europe or Expedia, who operate that service and your money is accepted subject to the security offered by
that company's individual terms of service. All of our partner companies are established and respected names within the travel industry. When booking an apartment, an initial deposit is paid which includes this company's booking fee, this deposit is held in a dedicated account and not accessed by the company until after you return from your holiday. A second payment is made direct to the apartment provider in Italy and the final (largest) payment is made when you arrive in Italy for your holiday. In addition, if you pay by credit card, your payments will also be guaranteed by your credit card provider according to their individual terms and conditions.
Driving in Northern Italy
Contrary to the Italian stereotype, once you have a hire car driving in Northern Italy is very well mannered and remarkably easy. In fact, it is considerably less aggressive than driving in the UK. (It does help to remember to drive on the right though!). Click Here for Lake Garda car hire quotations.
Lake Garda Airports
Lake Garda is reached via six main airports in Northern Italy served by many budget, scheduled and charter airlines including Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet 2 and British Airways.
- Verona Catullo Airport is about 25 minutes away by car/taxi and is served by scheduled and charter airlines including British Airways. Click this link for flights to Verona airport
- Verona Brescia Airport (Ryanair) is 50 minutes by car
- Milan Bergamo Airport (Ryanair, Jet 2) is 60-90 minutes by car
- Milan Linate Airport (Ryanair) is about 2 hours by car
- Venice Marco Polo Airport (Easyjet) is about 90-120 minutes by car
- Venice Treviso Airport (Ryanair) is two to two and a half hours by car
For all of the airports apart from Verona Catullo, our advice would be to rent a car or use an airport transfer service as taxis are expensive for journeys over an hour in length. Lake Garda Exclusively can organise airport transfers to Sirmione, Bardolino, Pacengo, Cola and Lazise when a Garda Lake apartment is booked. But for upwards of four people our advice would be to consider renting a car. The journey is very straightforward for most of the airports other than from Venice Treviso which requires a small degree of map reading or Tom-Tom! If you are staying overnight close to an airport, please checkout our Italian Airport Hotels.
Trains in Italy
Trains are generally inexpensive and reliable in Italy. Some guests do travel to Lake Garda by train from the UK, but this is a long journey! The two main railway stations are Peschiera and Desenzano. Also checkout Trenitalia, the Italian National railway service. You can even travel by motorail to Verona or Bolsano from Dusseldorf with the German railway system DB.
Gardaland and Other Lake Garda Themeparks
Being clear about one thing, Lake Garda is nothing like Florida, however it does have some excellent themeparks and waterparks, which adults and children do love. Lake Garda Themeparks are manage to remain very 'Italian'. By that they are not as 'in your face' as American themeparks, but lack none of the captivation. The attention to detail is also highly commendable as is the excellent quality food that is served. Gardaland is the most well known themeparkwhich is between Peschiera del Garda and Lazise, near to the village of Pacengo on the South East shore of Lake Garda. Virtually next door to Gardaland is Movie Studios Park or Canevaworld as it is also known. Canevaworld offers a combination of movie themed rides and shows and is a great day out. Acqua Paradise Park or Aqua Paradise Park as it is sometimes spelled also Acqua is correct, is a very popular waterpark closeby. There are several excellent hotels near the themeparks, with the Gardaland Hotel being the themepark's very own hotel with other hotels found at Bardolino, Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione and Desenzano all within easy travelling distance.
However less well known are Benacus Free time which has indoor go karting and other activities and Park Jungle Adventure near San Zeno. Finally there is an excellent Lake Garda Zoo and Safari Park near Bussolengo.
Bardolino Wine Festival
The Bardolino Wine and Grape Festival is one of the friendliest, wine soaked event in the world, with endless stalls along the shoreline at Bardolino, with visitors from all over the world enjoying the lovely wines of the region, including of course, Bardolino wine.
The dates of the Bardolino Wine festival are 28th September to 2nd October 2017, and the weather is usually very nice in October.
Classic Cars on Lake Garda and the Mille Miglia
Lake Garda is only a short 40 minute drive from Brescia which is the start and finish line for the spectacular Mille Miglia (thousand mile) race, which takes place every year in May, with an incredible selection of historically important racing cars from Bentley to Bugatti. The race travels from Brescia to Desenzano, Sirmione and Peschiera del Garda before travelling onto Verona and all are excellent venues to see this amazing spectacle.
Also at Brescia is the fantastic Mille Miglia Museum which houses some incredible historic vehicles which have participated in the race since its inception and follows the history of the event year on year. The Mille Miglia event is being held from 16th to 20th May 2018 and shouldn't be missed.
Also an unmissible detour for the classic car enthusiast on Lake Garda is Museo Nicolis at Villafranca, which is a huge collection of mainly Italian classic cars since the dawn of motoring, housed in a wonderful modern building a short drive from Lake Garda.
To watch classic cars of the future being made, the Ferrari factory at Modena is also an essential visit, although tours have to be pre booked.
Verona Opera Festival
Lazise and Bardolino are both excellent bases for your holiday if you are thinking about visiting Verona and perhaps seeing one of their dramatic operas.
