Residence San Rocco Overview (located near to Salo)

This former Monastery has panoramic views of Lake Garda from a commanding position overlooking Moniga del Garda.  The resort is at Soiano del Garda near Desenzano and Moniga del Garda on the South West of the lake.  Soiano is a pretty little village on a hill with spectacular views of Lake Garda.  It has shops and restaurants. Moniga del Garda also has a nice lakefront and harbour and some excellent restaurants, Pizzeria El Magher in particular.

Residence San Rocco is a rather unique apartment resort and has its own very excellent restaurant, Osteria Il Grillo Parlante and a coffee bar and also offers breakfast on the terrace as an option.  The resort can be used just like a hotel if required.   It also has a large swimming pool and extensive gardens and can be considered as being an "Apartment Hotel".

The resort features approximately 30 large and well equipped apartments each one having a living room with kitchen corner, a double bedroom and a bathroom.   Apartments on the upper floors have a terrace and some are air conditioned.  There are also some large apartments suitable for up to five guests.  Even though each room only has one bedroom some of the apartments are an L shape and can therefore offer separate sleeping areas in the living room. 

Suites of adjacent rooms are also available for up to seven guests at very reasonable prices.

The main tourist towns in the area are a car ride away, and would be Desenzano, Salo, Gardone Riviera, Sirmione and the pretty little village of San Felice. There is some excellent shopping nearby with numerous outlet centres further North on the lake in the region of Manerba del Garda. 

A car is recommended as Residence San Rocco is on a hill and around 3km from Lake Garda and Moniga del Garda, although it is walking distance from the village of Soiano del Garda.

Residence San Rocco has been modernised so it is very much living in comfort and not as the monks used to live!  But several features of your holiday can make this accommodation special.  The first is that the Manestrini family have been producing excellent Olive Oil since the 1960's and your holiday can include a guided tour of  the family olive oil facility with sampling of their excellent extra virgin olive oil, wine, grappa and other local produce at the Manestrini family store closeby.  There are also some very nice wine tours in this region of the Lake and numerous golf courses nearby.  This resort has been visited by Lake Garda Holidays staff and we were warmly received.

Apartment overview

Each apartment is well equipped with a kitchen, one double bedroom and sofabeds and single beds in the living area.  Some are air conditioned and many have a lake view.

Prices quoted are four a four person apartment, studio apartments are less expensive and apartments with terrace are more expensive.  These prices vary slightly according to the location of the apartment and whether it has a lake view so please enquire for a precise quotation.

Bedrooms

One double bedroom plus a combination of single beds and sofabeds, apartments can accommodate up to five guests or suites of two apartments can accommodate up to seven guests.

Location

Located at Soiano del Garda near to Moniga del Garda in a panoramic position on a hill overlooking Lake Garda.  A car is recommended.

Nearby Attractions

Residence San Rocco is ideally situated for visiting the West side of the Lake including the lively town of Desenzano with great nightlife at weekends, the picturesque towns of Salo and Gardone Riveria (which was Winston Churchill's favourite holiday destination) and the pretty little towns of Portese and San Felice. 

Gardone Riveria has the gardens and former home of the poet Gabriele d' Annunzio called Vittoriale degli Italiani, which makes a great day out exploring the eclectic range of buildings and gardens, which include his ancient car, the aeroplane he used to drop leaflets in the First World War (safer than bombs!) and even the prow of the ship on which he served.  There is also the Botanical Garden of Arthur Hruska.

There is some very good shopping on the West side of the lake with a number of outlet centres near Salo and even a micro brewery.  Follow the Brescia road and there are quite a number of clothing outlet stores, especially shoe shops.

You can also travel by boat from Garda to many of the interesting towns on the East side of the Lake, but there is plenty of the West side to keep you fully occupied for several holidays.
