Moniga del Garda Area Tourist Information
Lake Garda Tourist Information for South West Lake Garda
Moniga del Garda Tourist Information
Moniga del Garda is a small town on the West shoreline of Lake Garda, with a picturesque harbour and a massive castle on the hill above the town, which you can see on the right as you drive into the town. Alledgedly there are even streets of houses inside of the castle! The harbour area is particularly picturesque with a wide expanse of (pebble) beach. Desenzano, Salo, Portese, San Felice and Gardone are nearby.
Worthy of special note however is the El Magher Pizzeria in Moniga which serves quite exceptional and prizewinning meals and Residence San Rocco at nearby Soiano del Lago with its excellent restaurant and wine and olive oil store.
Pagenghe sul Garda Tourist Information
Just slightly North of Desenzano on the West Coast of Lake Garda is Padenghe sul Garda which is the beach area of Desenzano. Mainly people use this area for sunbathing which has a sandy beach in places as opposed to pebbles. There is also boat rental and various bars and restaurants. The nearby town of Padenghe is a tidy little place with a number of good hotels.
Manerba del Garda Tourist Information
Manerba is a small town between Moniga del Garda and Salo on the West side of Lake Garda. Manerba is best known for its very nice beaches and also a microbrewery, not surprisingly called Manerba Brewery. Also just North of Manerba is Lake Garda's largest island, Isola del Garda which was formerly the site of an ancient monastery (strange place to choose to live, but I suppose it was quiet!). The island is privately owned by a 90 minute guided tour is available which departures from Garda and Barbarano (near Salo).
In the town itself there is a nice walk to the Rocca di Manerba to see the huge iron cross, apparently there was a castle there once, but it has long gone. There is also a nature reserve nearby the area is a haven for bird watchers and lovers of nature (but not naturists!).
Portese Tourist Information
Porto Portese is a very attractive little harbour close to San Felice del Benaco and Salo, with the village of Portese higher on the hill. It has a pizzeria and restaurant and is very scenic little place to spend an hour or two taking in the enjoyable scenery or for a easy walk along the lakeside.
