Peschiera Tourist Information

Peschiera is a former garrison town situation on the South East corner of Lake Garda and has its own junction off the A4 Autostrada and also a mainline railway station.  It is South of Lazise and East of Sirmione and very close to Gardaland, Movie Studios Park, Aqua Paradise Park and the Gardaland Hotel.

Geographically it is interesting because it is at the mouth of the River Mincio which carries away the water from the lake into the River Po and then ultimately onto the Mediterranean Sea.  For anyone interested in this, the water enters the lake via the River Sarca at Riva del Garda. 

Peschiera is another fortified town and a former garrison town.  From 1516 Peschiera belonged to Venice, hence the fortifications which were later added to by Napoleon.  It is still possible to walk along some sections of the walls, but most visitors simply notice the interesting gateway into the town, photographed above. 

Because of the walls, there are two distinctive parts to Peschiera, the old town which lies inside of the walls and the newer area outside.  Interestingly though, the new part of the town is also rather attractive and is home to a very nice Marina and a floating restaurant. 

Peschiera old town has some very good shopping all around the narrow streets which criss cross the area, with a lot of good quality clothing shops in particular.  Needless to say there are plenty of places to dine regardless of whether you want a quick snack or a fantastic meal.  Peschiera also has a major railway station and Autostrada junction.  It also has its own castle which has been converted into a restaurant.

The tourist information office is also very helpful and well stocked and the staff speak English.  Peschiera is a good place to chill out and a very good base for a Lake Garda Holiday.  There are plenty of hotels and restaurants but not many apartments.

There are two things which make Peschiera special, the first is that there are the most amazing Lake views, which the camera cannot really capture in full, because it is the sheer size of the view and blueness of the Lake which is absolutely captivating.   Add to this the many marinas and it is just a wonderful sight to see.

The second unique feature of Peschiera is the Lakeside walk, which has a definite curve to it, lined with trees.  It is just the ideal place to promenade.

At Lake Garda Exclusively we wouldn't place Peschiera as being one of the 'must see' towns on the Lake, such as Lazise or Sirmione, but it is a very nice town and a good base for a holiday or simply to visit, if nothing else just for the breathtaking views.

Parco Giardino Sigurta

About 9km South of Peschiera, signposted Valeggion sul Mincio is one of the most beautiful gardens in the world, Parco Giardino Sigurta, which is open from March until October.  The park was established in 1617 and now extends over half a million square metres.  There are five flowering seasons throughout the year, known as the tulips, irises, roses, lillies and asters.  Parco Sigurta is considered to be one of the five most beautiful gardens in the world.

The nearby town of Valeggio sul Mincio, is a very pleasant in its own right and a gastronomic delight with around 40 restaurants, it also has a castle and bridge built by Visconti and two water parks.  It is also close to Verona and Villafranca Golf courses and the excellent Museo Nicolis Motor Museum at Villafranca.
